Centering Prayer

Centering Prayer is an opening, a response, a putting aside of all the debris that stands in the way of our being totally present to the present Lord, so that He can be present to us. It is a laying aside of thoughts, so that the heart can attend immediately to Him. All prayer is a response. The Lord first knocks, beckons, calls to us.  ― Basil Pennington

Centering Prayer is one more beautiful way at All Saints you can respond to God’s complete and total devotion to you.  Perhaps you have heard about our small groups that gather to pray in the Lady Chapel? Perhaps you would like to join us? We would welcome you warmly. No experience necessary and beginners and new friends are most welcome and expected.

What is Centering Prayer like? We gather in the Lady Chapel in silence where we are welcomed by a facilitator who begins our time of attending to our Lord’s Presence together with three short chimes. For 20 minutes we honor complete silence. After three short chimes and a prayer in closing, we depart the chapel as quietly as we arrived, giving thanks to God for the time together and for each other.

When?

“You can pray or ‘center’ whenever you want, wherever you are.” However, if you are seeking the support of a Centering Prayer group, Centering Prayer is scheduled on Mondays,  7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. in the Lady Chapel and Wednesdays, 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the Church.

How?

Mary Zahl from All Saints Centering Prayer Group made this video to assist you in your response to God’s call to solitude.
