The Second Coming

“The Lord is not slow about His promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should reach repentance.”

Wednesday, December 3 • The First Week of Advent • The Second Coming • 2 Peter 3.1-10

“The Lord is not slow about His promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should reach repentance.”

The Word that once called creation from chaos still calls us into holiness. Scoffers may forget the story, but we remember: all things are held in the promise of our King’s return. Life is so full. The distractions are many. It is hard to remember this, but we do. The Day will arrive just like Jesus said it would, like a thief, quick as dawn after the longest night. So we wait not in fear, but in wonder, letting this hope cleanse our vision. In the quiet, we hear it: the Lord is not slow. He is lovingly near, and every moment is a summons to walk in His light.

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
