The Season of Advent: Advent II

Advent calls us to wait with hope for Christ’s promised return.

by The Rev. F. Stuart Shelby on December 10, 2024

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! Revelation 22.20

Advent calls us to wait with hope for Christ’s promised return. Just as Israel longed for the Messiah, we live in expectation of His coming again to restore all things (Colossians 1.15-23). This hope sustains us in life’s uncertainties, anchoring us in God’s unchanging promises. Like a bride eagerly preparing for her wedding day, the Church waits for Christ’s Return. Jesus assures us, Surely, I am coming soon (Revelation 22.20). While we wait, we prepare our hearts, grow in grace and knowledge of God’s grace, and proclaim His Gospel.

Let hope shape your prayers this season. For wherever you have known despair, the Lord Himself is coming to you. The perpetual advent of the Holy Spirit sustains us daily until we see shall Him.

Let hope shape our common prayer today: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

O God our King, by the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ on the first day of the week, you conquered sin, put death to flight, and gave us the hope of everlasting life: Redeem all our days by this victory; forgive our sins, banish our fears, make us bold to praise you and to do your will; and steel us to wait for the consummation of your kingdom on the last great Day; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
