As reports of the devastation in Florida’s Big Bend, Eastern Tennessee, Georgia, and Western North Carolina reach us, we grieve and ask with genuine concern, "How can we help?" I want you to know that we are actively planning with mission partners like the Dioceses of Central Florida, Florida, Southwest Florida, and Western North Carolina, Episcopal Relief & Development, food banks, and others to determine the areas of greatest need and the best ways to respond.
The devastation our neighbors are facing reminds me of Bay St. Louis and the Mississippi Coast following Hurricane Katrina, brothers and sisters my parish church of St. James, Fairhope served faithfully. The need for help and support will be before us for many months to come. So, I encourage your immediate response in these ways:
- PRAY. Pray for those who have lost everything. Pray for those who have been displaced from their homes. Pray for first responders and all who are involved in rescue and recovery and the delivery of supplies at this stage of care and assistance.
- GIVE. Your contributions will go to organizations directly serving those in need. You can contribute financially at the link here.
- SERVE. Help us make 100,000 meals. On Sunday, October 20 from 11:30 am - 2 pm, we will host a massive meal-packing effort in the Thomas Center. Through Meals of Hope, volunteers will pack 100,000 emergency meals and deliver them to the hardest hit areas. Use this signup link to let us know you'll be there.
- WORSHIP. Get back to church if it’s been a while. “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you,” says St. James. Hear the Comfortable Words of Christ’s Gospel with me one more time each Sunday as the Holy Spirit heals our blistered hearts and makes us good, trustworthy neighbors.
Thank you! Please stay alert for updates from All Saints Church of Winter Park.
Thanks be to God for the life in Christ that is ours to share with each other and our neighbors!
Much Love! Ever yours in Jesus,
