Honduras Book Drive
Would you be interested in continuing to help start school libraries in Honduras, where there are very few libraries and no culture of reading?
The Honduran Bishop Lloyd Allen has made that a priority and has asked retired librarian Pat DeSalvo (see her in the photo loading books) to travel throughout his diocese, talking to teachers, assessing needs, and making recommendations.
- Items such as shelving, little tables and chairs, a globe, maps, lighting, Spanish or Spanish-English books, etc can be purchased in Honduras if we can help with the funds. You can make a contribution on the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida website, Cfdiocese.org, in the menu, click Donate (or Click Here), enter the amount, and select Diocese of Honduras. For the memo line, enter "Honduras Books.”
- Now, for us, the focus is on children’s books in Spanish or Spanish-English, as we are confident we can find more English books. All books are quite expensive in Honduras. Since the schools are K-12, Spanish books for teens are welcomed in fiction or non-fiction…history, science, medical dictionary in Spanish…as long as they are reasonably up to date and in good condition. So if you like nosing around thrift and used book shops, you can have a new focus!
Martha Emerson ( ) will keep whatever you find until another shipment is made. Thank you for your interest!
