Breathe Deep the Breath of God

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesu. All Scripture is God-breathed…”

Wednesday, October 22 • The Week of the Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost • Breathe Deep the Breath of God • 2 Timothy 3.14-4.5

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesu. All Scripture is God-breathed…”

We often come to the Bible as if it were a dead thing. We aproach it as a book of rules, a museum of morals, a spiritual artifact to be studied but not inhaled. We forget that it’s not only written but spoken, that its real power is not in the ink but in the breath. Paul reminds Timothy that the Word of God is not merely to be read; it is to be received. It is to enter our lungs, bind to our hemoglobin, and be pumped by the heart to deliver oxygen to every cell, tissue, and organ.

Come take a deep breath tonight at 6 o’clock in the Mary Martha Parlor. Our special guest at this church social is David Zahl, a dear friend of the Parish and the author of The Big Relief: The Urgency of Grace for a Worn-Out World. Find today’s review by Christianity Today here.
